Negotiators

The Russian delegation included Foreign Minister Rumyantsev and F. D. Alopaeus who lived with their staff and servants in the Commandant’s house in the south-west corner of the Town Hall Square. King Gustav III and Gustav IV Adolf had once stayed in the same building. The Swedish delegation included Generals Kurt von Stendingk and A. F. Sköldebrand.

Because Stendingk was ill, the meetings were held in Carl Bruun’s house on the western edge of the square. The Russians took good care of the Swedes by assigning half of their staff to look after their needs and instructed them in the secrets of Russian cuisine.
