Peace treaty

After the treaty was signed, Sweden had no opportunity to interfere with any of the decisions made by the Emperor regarding Finland. The autonomous status awarded to Finland was up to the autocrat. Although Poland’s position was confirmed at the Congress of Vienna, it deteriorated later. While, in contrast, Finland was not named in any of the contracts, its autonomous position boosted its sense of self and permitted the development of a national culture.
